Rocky View County is pleased to announce the collection of 2,400 kilograms or over 7,000 litres of obsolete chemicals across the County in 2011, through their partnership with the CleanFARMS program. CleanFARMS is a non-profit environmental organization committed to disposing of agricultural waste. They approached Rocky View County in 2009 and offered to help with funding some of the costs associated with disposing of waste material. RVC is one of the few municipalities with an agricultural waste program.

Since the CleanFARMS program began, 83 million empty pesticide containers have been collected and over 1.3 million kilograms of obsolete pesticides have been rounded up across Canada.

Solid Waste and Recycling Mgr. for Rocky View, Cole Nelson says the County is happy to partner with CleanFarms. He's quick to credit farmers for their efficient use of chemicals.

In Rocky View County, the breakdown for the collection of obsolete pesticides for 2011 includes:

Obsolete and outdated pesticides are collected at transfer sites and agricultural roundups throughout Rocky View. Residents are asked to triple-rinse empty pesticide containers and leave outdated chemicals and pesticides in their original container to enable the handlers to properly identify and dispose of the chemicals.
