If you think you can post a better time than our honorable Mayor, now's your chance.

The Mayor's Recreation for Life Run and Walk doesn't start until June 3, but registration happens at the beginning of February on their website.

You can take part in the traditional 5 and 10 kilometre runs, and 1km fun run for the little ones. This year they're introducing a new event to add a new spin to the yearly tradition.

"We have a new 'Loop the Lake'  team challenge this year," explains Jody Matsuba-Szucs, co-organizer of the run. "That consists of two categories; there's a Corporate Airdrie small team of five, or large team of ten event and there's an ice user group challenge for up to 15 members."

"Loop the Lake" is just that, one loop around the lake. The ice user groups will have an interesting niche to their race, with fundraising going towards Genesis Place Phase 3, based on participation. Funds will be disbursed based on each of the registrations of Hockey, Skating Club, and Ringette's attendance. Those who aren't attached to one of the ice user groups will have their funds donated directly to the Airdrie Regional Recreation Enhancement Society.

This year they've also brought on a title sponsor in Propak Systems Ltd.
