On Tuesday, Nov. 1, Rocky View Council agreed to proceed with the second reading of the Rocky View/ Calgary Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) in a public hearing postponed from Sept. 6, pending a legal review. Senior Municipal Planner for the County, Richard Barss explains how the IDP benefits both Calgary and the County.

Barss adds that, with the plan, residents will have some certainty about how council will approach issues along our mutual border; it'll detail some joint planning areas, and govern relationships when it comes to proceeding with future development. As well, a new section was added to the IDP, stipulating that Rocky View County and Calgary work with the Town of Chestermere to ensure meaningful dialogue continues between the three municipalities.

The legal review is now complete and shows no major concerns regarding the proposed IDP. The plan will be considered by Calgary council, November 7.
