An Airdrie hockey player is looking back on last season and forward to what's ahead.

Last weekend, Ty Rattie and the Chicago Wolves were eliminated from the American Hockey League Playoffs by the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Rattie says he and the team are still feeling the sting of the loss.

"No matter what league you're in, you don't want to lose, you want to be that last team standing. Tough loss but that's the way it goes sometimes. (I) still feel it a bit, but it's time to move on and enjoy summer and family and friends."

To say that the 2016/17 season was tough might be an understatement, considering how much Rattie traveled in a short period of time.

"I lived in a hotel for most of the season, I lived out of my car for most of the season. It was a tough overall year, I'd say. I think I've never had a year quite like the year I had."

Rattie started the year with the Wolves and was eventually called up early in the season by the St. Louis Blues. After he was placed on waivers, Rattie was picked up by the Carolina Hurricanes where he played in five games.

That stint was short lived as Rattie was eventually sent back to St. Louis where they placed him back to to their AHL affiliate in Chicago.

Despite the back and forth journey last year, there's one moment that Rattie will never forget.

"My favourite moment by far was the Winter Classic in St. Louis and I got to have all my family there. Just to be around a game outdoors and experience that, it was really cool and that's something that will stay with me for the rest of my life."

Yesterday afternoon, (May 16th) the Wolves announced they will enter a new partnership with the Vegas Golden Knights starting next season.

Rattie, who will be a free agent this summer, says it's unclear if he'll be back with the Blues or their now former affiliate.

"It's decision time for myself and St. Louis, whether we're going to move forward with the relationship. That's first on the agenda and then after that, I guess, the rest will figure itself out."
