It was a game that can only be described as a classic, and the Airdrie Raiders won it.

The local Football team finally hit the field at Calgary's Shouldice Athletic Park last night (May 29th) for the Division 3 Championship of the Calgary and Area Midget Football Association (CAMFA) after the final game against the Prairie Fire was cancelled last week due to the massive wind and rain storm.

Playing in front of a large crowd of their fans, the Raiders came from behind twice to beat the Prairie Fire 28-25.

After two quarters of play, the Raiders were only behind by 2 points, 17-15. The score remained that way until the 4th quarter when the Raiders finally broke the deadlock with a touchdown from Reid Jensen.

It didn't take long for the Fire to respond, as quarterback Jonathan Ericson scurried into the end zone and threw the successful two point convert to give the Fire a 25-22 lead.

It was now do or die for the Raiders with less than two minutes left in the game. As the team marched closer to the red zone, a bobbled snap caused a fumble that was recovered by a celebrating Fire team.

Those cheers turned out to be too early as the Fire fumbled on the very next play. The Raiders recovered the ball, giving them one more shot at the winning score.

After a terrific reception was stopped at the one yard line, it was time for Josh Seaman to deliver the crowning moment. The running back plowed his way through the defense, giving the Raiders the lead once again. A blocked extra point attempt would put the Raiders ahead by only three points with one more chance for the Fire.

The Central Alberta team didn't go down easy, as they barely converted one third down play to stay alive, but were stopped short in the second attempt.

As the final seconds ticked away, the Raiders ran out onto the field jubilant, having won a game that seemed improbable just three weeks earlier.

The Raiders won both games in the Division 3 tournament despite going 0-6 in the 2017 season. Nonetheless, the local team came out strong and redeemed their winless year and will look to grow even stronger in 2018.
