Airdrie RCMP is looking into an incident from last weekend where a herd of cattle were struck while crossing.

Police say that ranchers were moving 110 of their cattle across the road, near the intersection with Yankee Valley and Highway 791 taking all precautions to make sure the cattle were moving safely.

One driver, however, didn’t stop.

“A silver Honda Civic came up and did not stop and made the decision to drive through the herd of cattle,” says Cst. Dan Martin, “that Honda Civic struck four cattle, one later succumbed to its injuries.”

Cst. Martin says that Police determined that the driver was using a stolen license plate and that the Civic was likely stolen as well, the driver fled the scene after hitting the cattle.

“We’re just asking that anyone that might have seen that car or have maybe seen that car matching that description since to call Airdrie RCMP,” says Cst. Martin, “again that was a silver Honda Civic, it would have significant front-end damage, the passenger side mirror had also been knocked off.”

The only description that Police could get of the driver was that he’s a Caucasian male in his early to mid-twenties.

Right now, Police aren’t 100% sure if the driver of the Civic was impaired at the time.

“We can’t tell if drugs or alcohol played a factor. A lot of assumptions are going to be made based on the driver being a possible car thief.”

If you have any information regarding the incident, you’re asked to contact Airdrie RCMP.
