Climate Change and Environment Canada is warning that there is a possibility of funnel clouds developing in parts of Rocky View County.

The weather advisory is in effect for areas near Irricana, Beiseker and Kathyrn, as well as the Drumheller - Three Hills area.

"Funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms. This weak rotation usually is not a danger near the ground. However, there is a chance that this rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado," the statement said,

If conditions become more favourable for developing landspout tornadoes, watches and warnings will be issued by Environment Canada.

Residents are urged to treat any funnel cloud sighting seriously. Should a funnel cloud develop nearby, you should prepare to take shelter as these funnel clouds usually appear with little or no warning.
