Parks Canada took to social media over the weekend to warn hikers after officials said they responded to multiple calls for assistance from hikers on higher-elevation trails in the Lake Louise area.

"Trails in the area, including the Plain of the Six Glaciers, Saddleback Pass, Lake Agnes, and Big Beehive trails are snowbound and slippery. In particular, the trail around Lake Agnes and the Big Beehive is not recommended due to steep, dangerous snow slopes and avalanche hazard," officials earned.

Officials added that because it is still early season for hiking, cleats or other traction devices are strongly recommended.

Hikers are also urged to check the Parks Canada website for trail conditions and closures. According to Avalanche Canada's website, 'many trails remain snow-covered and many popular trails are exposed to avalanche terrain.'

"Even though it is spring, we can still get winter-like storms with corresponding avalanche problems. The deep persistent problem persists and we will likely continue to see large deep avalanches with heating, rain, or large triggers, such as cornice failures," the website added.

Within the Lake Louise area, Parks Canada noted that several trails are either in poor condition or it is not recommended for hiking.
