One of the two individuals who was arrested and charged by Airdrie RCMP last December for a break-and-enter into an East Lake commercial property has been sentenced in Calgary court.

The 27-year-old Red Deer man, Juan David Gomez, will serve five months in jail and will be on probation for another 12 months. Though he was initially charged with seven charges, Gomez was convicted of three of the original charges including flight from a peace officer, theft of a motor vehicle, as well as break-and-enter.

He was also ordered to pay over $10 thousand in restitution and will have his license suspended for one year.

The other individual who was also arrested along with Gomez, 32-year-old Red Deer resident Tash-Leigh Maceachern was originally charged with the same offences as Gomez. Maceachern was charged with break and enter, mischief over $5,000, theft under $5000, two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, and failure to comply with release order conditions.

Maceachern will appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on July 13 for a plea.

In the early morning hours on December 5, Airdrie RCMP responded to a commercial business in the East Lake area for a break-in.

"A male and female suspect entered the business taking keys for two vehicles that were parked outside," a previous police release stated. "As officers arrived, the suspects fled in the two stolen vehicles; one being a garbage truck. Officers were able to follow the vehicles as they drove north on the QEII Highway,"

The suspects abandoned the garbage truck near Crossfield and continued to travel north, in the other vehicle, on the QEII Highway. Both were arrested near Innisfail, where officers successfully deployed a tire deflation device.
