Registration is now open for bussing services for the 2024/25 school year.

Student bus services are accessible to students living within Rocky View Schools (RVS) divisional boundaries and attending their assigned school. These services are offered to Kindergarten through Grade 7 students living over 1.5 kilometres away from their school and Grade 8 through 12 students residing more than two kilometres away from their school.

RVS also provides transportation for students from the Calgary Catholic School District residing in Airdrie, Chestermere, and Cochrane.

The school division wants families to register as soon as possible to provide a seamless fall experience. Registration must be submitted before August 1st to ensure service for the first day of school. It may take two to three weeks for students who enrolled after this deadline to board the bus.

The early registration discount of $40 applies to the first two students in a family, with subsequent students receiving a $20 discount if registering early. A minimum payment of 50 per cent is required at registration. Full refunds for bus service cancellations are available until October 31, 2024.

Fees this year will remain the same as last year. To register or learn more, click HERE.

According to RVS, the transportation department has been responsible for safely fulfilling the daily busing needs of more than 12,890 (up from 12,663 in January) students during the 2023/24 school year. Currently, RVS runs 269 standard bus routes daily, serving an average of 49 students per day.

The Transportation Department is dealing with growing contractor costs related to driver salaries, fleet maintenance, and the purchase of new buses. It is anticipated that these difficulties could increase if rider eligibility is increased. Back in a Board of Trustees meeting in January it was presented that RVS could see a jump of as many as 2400 additional students entering school buses within the next two years.

According to RVS, there are several new projects aimed at enhancing family communication and transportation services. Airdrie holds one of the largest riderships in RVS.

RVS is also looking for feedback when it comes to the 2025/26 and 2026/27 school calendars. RVS is considering a new fall break in November intended to support staff and student well-being. Feedback will help the Board to understand if this would be a desirable change for RVS school communities.
