Nose Creek Swim Association member Alexander Sharpe is competing in the 2016 Can Am Paralympic Championships.

The best para swimmers from the US, Canada, Mexico, Chile, India and other federations, are currently in Gatineau, Quebec for the competition.

"Alexander is qualified in an impressive 7-events program. Last night he pushed hard to drop 35 seconds from his morning preliminary swim to clench the gold medal in the 400m freestyle." said Alex Diep of the NCSA. "This was Alexander's first national/international medal. Not long after, he stepped up on the starting block for the 50 breaststroke and finished in second place."

This is only the 14-year-old's second high profile meet of this kind and is already showing a lot of promising results.

Racing the 50m freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke, Sharpe is currently qualified for finals in the pole position in both the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

Many of the swimmers competing are in preparation for the Rio Paralympics in late August.

The result of the 100 backstroke remains to be determined.
