Traffic is fully flowing once again on Airdrie's Main Street, at least for now.

Since May, portions of Main Street have been closed off as crews worked to install new water main and sanitary sewer pipes.

The City says the major project is necessary as the previous system was reaching the end of its life cycle.

Initially, the entire upgrade project was to be completed by this Halloween. However, crews experienced delays due to poor weather and unexpected issues.

Work on the latest phase of the project wrapped up on Wednesday, with the road from Elk Hill to the Shoppers Drug Mart now fully reopen.

Construction on the remaining phases will resume sometime in the Spring, starting with the portion of Main Street between Shoppers and Urgent Care.

They will continue north until they end up back where they started in May of this year, at 1 Avenue North.

You can find out more details on the project on the City of Airdrie's website.
