FortisAlberta is warning Airdrie residents after they said they received reports of an individual going door-to-door throughout Airdrie communities claiming to be from FortisAlberta.

"Representatives will always carry proper identification, wear official attire and provide verifiable information about their role with the company," the company shared on X (formerly known as Twitter)

In a letter also shared on social media, Fortis said that the individual is, 'spreading misinformation while falsely claiming to represent FortisAlberta.'

"These reports indicate the person was wearing a falsified identification tag around their neck, wanted to talk about ways in which electricity distribution can be reduced and made claims about a bill credit."

Fortis is asking customers to always verify credentials as a way to keep safe.

"Always check the credentials of anyone claiming to be from FortisAlberta or any company offering to save you money on bills or services. FortisAlberta representatives will always carry proper identification, wear official attire and provide verifiable information about their role with the company."

Residents are also being reminded to not disclose any personal information to unverified individuals and to report suspicious activity.

"If you encounter suspicious individuals at your home or business who are falsely representing themselves, report the activity to RCMP immediately and contact FortisAlberta. If ever you are unsure, please call us at 310-WIRE (9473). Your safety is always our top priority. Please do not engage with individuals making false claims and report suspicious activity to the authorities."
