A resident from Acme, just Northeast of Airdrie, is getting ready to retire earlier than planned, thanks to a $100,000 lottery win.

Brian MacKinnon was the lucky winner of a WESTERN 649 ticket on the February 3 EXTRA draw!

"I checked the ticket on the Lotto Spot app," he said while claiming his prize in St. Albert. "I was surprised!"

The new winner said he has two main ideas for his windfall.

"Well, I’ll start by paying some bills," he said. "The biggest thing for me is that this will enable me to retire a year and a half earlier than I expected!"

MacKinnon purchased his winning ticket from Acme Foods, located at 116 Main Street in Acme, AB. He won his prize by matching the last six digits of the EXTRA number drawn on February 3 – 4568571.

The announcement comes after Airdrie resident, Jacob Brown found out he won a quarter of a million dollars on the February 9 LOTTO MAX and EXTRA draw. The Airdronian said he had only purchased lottery tickets a handful of times, and it was his grandmother's lucky streak and advice that made him purchase the lucky ticket. 

"My Grandma recently won $500,000 on LOTTO MAX and told everyone to buy a ticket here and there," he said. "I listened!"

Upon discovering his win, Brown was overwhelmed with disbelief and joy.

"I was happy and panicked,” he said. "I called my mom and told her; she thought I said $250, so she was like, ‘That’s nice.’ It’s very nice!"

As for how he plans to use his newfound wealth, Brown said he is going to be smart about it.

"I'm going to put some away for my future and keep a little bit for myself," he said. "I don’t want the money to change me."

Brown purchased his winning ticket for $6 at the Real Canadian Superstore located at 300 Veterans Blvd NE in Airdrie. He added EXTRA to his ticket and won his prize by matching the EXTRA number drawn on February 9 – 5931437.
