In his latest report, local MP Blake Richards wants to hear your “horror” stories about travelling to and from Canada, especially if you had passport delays, issues with ArriveCAN, as well as airport backlogs.

“Camping should be an activity enjoyed in the great outdoors, not on the sidewalk in front of a passport office while in line waiting overnight to try and get your passport renewed in time.”

Richards says he has heard from countless constituents who had their summer travel plans cancelled or ruined by what seems to be chaos reigning in passport offices and airports.

“Again and again, we hear from constituents who are unable to reunite with their families abroad or are forced to cancel their vacations due to passport delays which show no sign of getting better any time soon.”

Richards even brought up some of the glitches and mistakes the ArriveCAN app is making.

“House arrest should be [a] tool used by judges as a sentence for criminals, not by the faulty and faceless ArriveCAN app which routinely glitches, ordering Canadians to quarantine for 14 days, despite following all the rules. The headaches created by this app have created a negative ripple effect through our travel and tourism sectors, severely limiting our economic opportunity in those sectors. No other country forces its own citizens to go through so many hurdles in order to travel.”

According to Richards, while the rest of the world returned to normal travel routines long ago, Canada continues to stand alone, stuck in the past.

“Conservatives are saying enough is enough. The Liberal government has the power to drop ArriveCAN immediately. They have the power to fix the passport processing delays. The time to act was yesterday. If you have faced issues with passport delays, ArriveCAN, or airport backlogs, please, take a moment to add your voice to the growing number of frustrated Canadians and share your story with us by emailing writeblake@blakerichards.ca.”
