Local golfer Riley Fleming was met with mixed results in the first half of the PGA Tour Canada: Mackenzie Tour.

After a relatively successful tournament at the Syncrude Oil Country Championship in Edmonton, the 23-year-old hopes to turn the corner.

"Ive been telling people my game feels really close," said Fleming, "So it was nice to see some good results last week and obviously i'm hoping to roll that into the ATB Classic here and have a strong event."

Fleming is sitting at 73rd on the tour, and attributes his rocky first half to his inability to finish a full four rounds consistently.

With the ATB Financial Classic held at Country Hills Golf Club, he hopes his familiarity with the course can give him the edge he needs to win.

"I don't really feel like going out in the cold and miserable weather is going to give me any kind of advantage over the other guys, I've already played the course a lot so I know how it plays and that's my advantage," said Fleming, "I'm used to playing it on normal conditions, not when it's soaking wet."

Fleming adds that the windy conditions which are common at Country Hills will provide the most challenges for golfers come tee time.

So far this year, he has earned just under $4,500 in 7 events. In 2015 he earned a total of $16,809, leaving his career winnings at a total of $31,573.

This year has not only brought Fleming across Canada, but he also spent parts of this season competing in tournaments across Southeast Asia.

"This season I've definitely struggled a little bit, but my putting has been pretty good, my putting and my short game has been very well, normally it's my ball striking that I'm relying on but I'm very happy with my short game this year, i put a lot of work into it in the off-season."

The ATB Financial Classic kicks off Thursday, August 4th.
