This weekend is another step for two local hockey stars in their quest for the AJHL Championship.

Airdrie's Zac Giroux and Cochrane's Jake Dube began their Division Final series on Friday night.

Giroux and the Lloydminster Bobcats take on the two time defending league champion, the Spruce Grove Saints in the North Final, while Dube and the Camrose Kodiaks play Brooks in the South.

Both players have made impressive strides with their teams, with Giroux scoring 2 goals in seven games and Dube racking up 3 assists so far these playoffs.

Giroux knows that his team will be in tough against the Saints, but believes they have a chance to beat them.

"I think their history almost makes it more of a motivation for us to want to beat them...we went 3 and 3 with them in the season so we know it's going to be a good series. We just have to work hard and play our kind of hockey, I think we should come out victorious."

Overall, the experience of advancing this far in the playoffs is one that Giroux and the Bobcats are embracing.

"It'll be crazy here in the next two days. I figure that Spruce Grove's rink will be as packed as ours will, even more so now that it's third round, I think we'll have more people coming out and more support which always helps."

Dube and the Kodiaks will look to return to the AJHL final for the first time since the 2011 season.

The Cochrane resident who was acquired mid season from the Okotoks Oilers will look to make his mark in the playoffs.

With game one in the books, the local hockey products will continue their success in game two of their respective series tonight.
