Following the May long weekend, motorists in Airdrie may experience longer commutes to and from work this week and for several weeks with several lane closures which are associated with the 40th Avenue Interchange construction.

Beginning on Wednesday, May 23, till Saturday, May 27, starting at 9 a.m. to 3 p.m, both the Northbound and Southbound lanes of the QEII near the 40th Avenue construction area will experience inside single-lane closures to accommodate piling operations in the median for sign structures.

These lane closures will also be repeated next week, beginning on Monday, May 29, till Saturday, June 3 and will also occur between June 5 till June 10, as well as from June 12 to June 17. All scheduled lane closures will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There is also a road closure today, Tuesday, May 23, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Bill Hill Circle Southeast. This closure is due to a hydrant repair in the area.

Earlier this month, it was announced that the North Bridge deck at 40 Avenue and Southpoint LD-CPR Overpass will be closed until further notice.

"Traffic will be detoured onto the new (south) bridge deck to accommodate construction on the existing (north) bridge deck," the city stated on their website.

The construction of the 40th Avenue Interchange is expected to be finished in October 2023.
