The Alberta Football League recently handed out their 2017 Awards and a member of the Airdrie Irish was among those recognized.

Tyler Langlais was named the league's Outstanding Defensive Lineman, an honour he didn't expect to receive.

"It was a little surprising, I wasn't expecting to be number one on the list. There's a lot of really competitive players out there, especially up in Fort Mac where you have players that have been to CFL camps."

Last season Langlais recorded 8.5 sacks along with 3 Forced Fumbles and 29 total tackles. He was the only defensive lineman in the league to score a TD after recovering a fumble.

Langlais has been with the Irish for two seasons now and says he wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

"I've been in many different levels of football: Junior, CIS, College and then even a little pro where it's pretty much all business. Going back and playing with these guys, it brings the fun back into football, where it's not as much your job."

The Airdrie Irish ended their 2017 season on August 12th in a Quarter Final loss to the St. Albert Stars. The team has just started recruiting for the 2018 season.

Aaron McCommish of the Stars was named runner up for the Defensive Lineman award while Jordan Heather of the Calgary Gators was named League MVP after guiding the team to the league championship and a berth in the National Title Game which goes this Saturday (September 16th).
