The Airdrie Thunder are holding on to first place in the Northern Division of the Heritage Junior Hockey League, but just barely.

The Thunder were in Coaldale last night where they lost 4 - 3 to the Copperheads.  That loss, combined with Red Deer's 4 - 0 shutout of the winless Three Hills Thrashers leaves Airdrie just one point up on the Vipers who hold three games in hand.

Blackfalds is just two points back of the Thunder and have played four fewer games.

Last night, Jack Maccready, Andrew McLennan and Benjamin Orde scored in a losing cause for the Thunder.  Jacob MacDonald had two assists.

Elsewhere in the league, the Cochrane Generals got a big performance from Slater Ransom and won their second game of the weekend, 5 - 2 over the Cubs in Medicine Hat.

Ransom had a hand in all the scoring for the Generals with one goal and four assists.

In Didsbury, the Mountainview Colts also won their second of the weekend but had to put in some extra work to do it.

Colton Anderson scored his second goal of the night 3:48 into overtime to lift the Colts to a 4 - 3 victory over the Strathmore Wheatland Kings.

Strathmore jumped out to a 3 - 0 lead 13 minutes into the second period before the Colts staged their comeback.
