Shortly after 12 p.m., the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) announced the grid alert has ended.

The alert came out this morning around 7 a.m. due to tight supply. The AESO is still asking consumers to conserve electricity where possible as the supply forecast remains tight.

According to AESO, grid alerts can happen for a variety of reasons, including, extremely cold or hot weather, which drives increased use of heating or air conditioning systems, time of day and wind conditions, which impact the availability of solar and wind-generated energy, as well as unplanned generation facility outages.
