"GPS technology led officers to a rural location in Foothills County, where a stolen generator was believed to be. A search warrant was obtained and executed, and officers located the stolen generator, a stolen enclosed utility trailer, and over a thousand pounds of copper wire that was actively being stripped for recycling purposes," a police release stated.

Clayton Whaling was charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, and breaching a court order.

He was held for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing and was released for Alberta Court of Justice in Okotoks on June 7.

The other man, also a resident of Foothills County, Chad Eroshinsky, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 and theft over $5000. He was released from custody and will appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Okotoks on July 15.

The investigation continues and RCMP is recommending to property owners, to put trackers on their stored property.

"This will greatly assist the RCMP if there is a need to investigate a theft," police added.

In late April, Whaling was arrested after officers with the RCMP Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU) were investigating property crime in Mountain View County.

At that time, police had observed a white GMC Sierra, which had an obstructed licence plate and was towing a flat deck trailer and a skid steer. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle.

"As a result of this traffic stop, it was determined that the GMC Sierra had been stolen out of Crossfield, the black tilt deck trailer had been stolen out of Calgary, and the Caterpillar skid steer had been stolen from Okotoks."

Whaling was previously charged with three counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000. After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Whaling was released for Alberta Court of Justice on May 23 in Airdrie.
