It had all the fixings of the classic Battle of Alberta of the 80s.

Heavy hitting, high flying, hard nosed hockey... and someone lost some teeth. Even the jerseys took a trip in a Delorian. The only thing missing was a "friendly conversation" between Tim Hunter and Dave Semenko.

But at the end of 60 minutes, the Edmonton Oilers couldn't solve the onslaught of the Calgary Flames. Mikka Kiprusoff picked up his 2nd shutout on the season.

The first noteworthy play of the night wasn't a goal, or a save, but a costly dentist bill, as Olli Jokinen's stick found its way into the chicklets of the Oilers Ladislav Smid 8 minutes into the 2nd period. The Flames managed to kill of the 4 minute high sticking penalty, which seemed to spark something in the team, as they'd finish the 2nd period up 2-0 on goals by Tom Kostopoulos on the power play, his 3rd of the season, and a one timer from Jarome Iginla, his 10th.

Puck control was the name of the game for the Flames in the third period. Pin point power plays, and great cycling in the offensive zone kept the lead in the final frame. That, and lucky breaks, like a Too Many Men call with 4:55 left in the game, as the Oilers seemed to be picking up some steam, and getting some chances in the offensive zone.

Then again, lucky bounces went both ways with that power play, as Iginla missed two amazing chances, one hopping over his stick; The other ringing off the post. The Flames would finish the night 1 for 7 with the man advantage.

But "The Captain" would ice the game with his second of the game, 11th on the season, into the empty net at 19:40 of the third period.

Miikka Kiprusoff stopped all 21 shots he faced.

The Flames hit the road for the next four games, starting Tuesday in Nashville against the Predators.
