The finalists have been named for this year's Mayor's Night of the Arts. The event will return on April 14 at 7 p.m. at the Bert Church Theatre.

The event was created to celebrate and recognize the accomplishments of some of Airdrie's most talented artists. These artists bring a lot of vibrancy to the city with many different art forms like music, dance, film, culinary arts and so much more.

Brown talked about why an event like this is important to local artists or people who showcase local artists.

"We want to foster an opportunity for people to be creative, and express themselves. That's a great way to break down barriers. It's personal fulfillment, it builds confidence."

According to Brown, this is one of the many steps to building a real art culture within Airdrie.

"I think whether you win or lose (for the finalists), it's going to be a great night and I think that if you're coming to be entertained, it's also going to be a great night."

Brown also mentioned that just being nominated and being recognized is a win.
