Councillor Tina Petrow is ready to embark on the final mountain of her "Hike for Hunger" to fundraise for the Food Bank this Sunday (October 15).

The final mountain is Mount Bourgeau. She has already completed Cascade Mountain (at the end of Banff Avenue) and Mount Allan (located in Kananaskis).

"This last one is about 24 kilometres and about 1700 meters of elevation gain," explained Councillor Petrow.

The goal of these climbs is to fundraise a total of $10,000 for the food bank while hiking 5000 meters in elevation gain and 60 kilometres in distance.

Unfortunately, Councillor Petrow does not believe she will be able to hit that goal so she has lowered it to $5000. The last updated total after the second mountain is around $4000 fundraised.

Councillor Petrow stated even though she might not reach her goal of $10,000, she is still very thankful for everybody who has donated.

"The goal was to get $10,000 to the food bank. So, whether that comes from my campaign or other people's campaigns, as long as that money is getting to them in some way, shape, or form, it doesn't matter if it's coming from me or somewhere else."

The Airdrie Food Bank has a special place in her heart, due to the fact that when she was growing up, her family had to make use of it when they needed to.

"We have incredible people in this community doing incredible work every day. I know that the community has been rallying behind them like champions right now and I'm so proud of the entire community."

Councillor Petrow has been updating followers by posting videos and pictures along the way, to her Facebook event page if you'd like to keep track of her progress. The food bank has been keeping her up to date with the dollar progress every week to show her how far she is from her fundraising goal.
