Airdrie RCMP conducted an enhanced checkstop on December 29 from noon to midnight at three different locations. Officers handed out 44 tickets representing $6,137 for a range of offences including expired registration and driving without a licence.

Police said five people were arrested and two wound up with drug-related charges. 114 grams of marijuana was seized, plus an ounce of cocaine and $3,500 of suspected drug money.

A vehicle connected to an armed robbery and carjacking on the QE-2 that day was spotted by police and apprehended. The impaired suspect had been released from prison 12 days earlier and faces numerous charges.

RCMP also executed four warrants, towed three vehicles and issued one 24-hour driving suspension.
