Edge School for Athletes will formally separate from Rocky View Schools on July 1, 2012. The final decision to part came at this month's meeting.

The school features hockey, dance, golf and soccer programs, providing students in grades 5 to 12 with a chance to access a wide range of high-performance sports and disciplines.

Principal and CEO, Cameron Hodgson was concerned about class sizes at Edge, historically comfortable around 20, increasing to numbers larger than preferred. The Edge School Society wanted the option to use tuition money to maintain class sizes, something that cannot be done under public education’s rules. NHL Calder Trophy winner Tyler Myers, Red Deer Rebel Matt Dumba and golfer Austin Cruikshank all attended the school.

RVS Superintendent, Greg Bass says the school was initially taken on by the Division in the spring of 2010 when the Board approved a two-year pilot.
