An unexpected manufacturing delay means that the hot tub at Genesis Place will remain closed until at least late November.

"In alignment with Alberta Health Services regulations, the hot tub will not reopen as planned on [Saturday] September 9, while we wait for delivery and installation of this critical safety component," The City of Airdrie stated on its website.

However, the leisure, tot and lane pool, dive tank, steam room and waterslide will all reopen as scheduled this Saturday at 7 a.m.

"We look forward to communicating a more solid hot tub reopening date as delivery and installation timelines become clearer."

Continuous pass holders wanting to keep their pass on hold for the duration of the hot tub closure are asked to submit a request to the city via email. The city has also reminded pass holders that a pass 'hold' pauses access to all Genesis Place amenities.

Previously, The City stated that Genesis Place pool as well as the aquatics area would be temporarily closing for three weeks for maintenance. The maintenance began on August 18. While many residents voiced frustration at the timetable of the maintenance schedule, The City noted that both late August and early September historically have had the lowest daily amenity attendance numbers for the year.

"Conducting biennial maintenance during this off-peak period allows us to complete the required work while impacting the fewest number of patrons."

Earlier this month, on September 1, Genesis Place implemented fee hikes. As of September 1, the adult family pass rate includes one adult and all children in the household under the age of 18 years. One adult family costs $30.25 for a drop-in, $272.25 for 10 visits, or $102.50 per month for a continuous monthly pass. A two-family adult pass rate now costs $32 for a drop-in, $288 for 10 visits, or $142.25 per month for a continuous monthly pass.
