Police are reminding motorists to avoid what they have called the 'tornado zone', as the number of those curious to see the aftermath is becoming a safety concern.

"RCMP can confirm that a female motorist was charged today with Careless Driving and Distracted Driving when she stopped in the middle of the road, parked her vehicle and proceeded to take pictures, even when she was told to move on by Police and Peace Officers," police stated.

Mounties said the actions of the motorist caused a huge traffic issue.

"As well, officers had to respond to a collision in the area as people were not paying attention to the road. First responders are far too busy in that area to deal with these issues. Please be respectful and stay away," the police release added.

On Sunday afternoon, Mount View County also alerted residents to a road closure. Highway 2A, between Township Roads 304 and 310, North of Carstairs will be closed.

"This closure has been approved in order to keep our first responders safe, allow for cleanup efforts in the community, and to reduce any potential further incidents caused by increased motorists in the area," Officials communicated on Facebook.

Reroute signage will be posted accordingly providing alternative routes to help you navigate around the affected areas. It was unclear when the road will re-open.

On Saturday evening, Didsbury RCMP reported that 14 houses were affected by the tornado. Five houses were completely destroyed.

"Carstairs and Didsbury Fire were deployed to the scene as well as RCMP. One woman was trapped in her basement as her home was destroyed above her, but thankfully Carstairs Fire Department pulled her from the rubble and she only suffered minor injuries. No other people have been injured," police stated. "25 cows and 20 chickens are deceased and one horse needed to be put down."

Mounty View County officials said that they will continue to assess the damage resulting from the tornado in the coming days. Residents that experienced damage from the event are encouraged to provide their contact information to the County in order to facilitate communication between parties in the coming days.

Reeve Angela Aalbers noted that Mountain View County’s Council and Administration continue to think about those that have been impacted by tornado events and will work over the coming days with these residents to assist however possible.
