Cochrane's former Domtar site is in its final stages of remediation and is expected to be transformed into a flat state by late this fall. Then, a remediation report is filed with Alberta Environment and Alberta Health Services, says Rick Deans, senior manager of infrastructure for the Town of Cochrane.

The report will be submitted by Edmonton-based development company Springwood, currently working on the site, and must show that the land meets the standards set in January 2010 by environmental management consultants, Worley Parsons.

Once that confirmation is received, the Town will tender a roads project with the intention of building a four-lane extension of Centre Avenue through the development area onto Griffin Road. The proposed roadwork is still dependent on proper approvals, including a go-ahead from Canadian Pacific Railway.
