The City of Airdrie will begin analyzing two downtown intersections to see whether or not 4-way stops should be put in place.

City Councillor Al Jones brought forward his motion to Council at Tuesday’s meeting adding the second intersection to his request.

Jones said he’d like to see the additional traffic signals added to the intersections of First Street and Centre Avenue and First Street and First Avenue.

4-way stops were put in place at both intersections earlier this summer due to construction happening on Main Street.

Lorne Stevens with the City says staff will have to follow guidelines when it comes to evaluating whether or not the additional traffic signals should be added.

“We do observe the Transportation Association of Canada's guidelines for 4-way stops. We have not recently evaluated [the intersections], we’d be pleased to undertake that analysis,” said Stevens.

City staff will bring forward a report and their recommendations once the analysis is complete for Council to review and or adopt.
