Much-needed funds were brought in for the Airdrie Health Foundation thanks to the Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign.

The campaign which ran from April 29 through to May 5 generated $62,024.02. There were over 152 shifts of volunteers decorating cookies for about half an hour per shift.

Michelle Bates, the Executive Director of the Airdrie Health Foundation is thankful for everybody who bought a cookie.

"It's amazing that the community comes together with this great local business who believes in us and the work that we're doing to help support all of health care here in Airdrie."

The funds will be put towards whatever is most needed from the front-line staff. So if anything comes up and something breaks, the foundation will use the funds to help make their jobs easier.

"They're able to reach out to us and we're able to provide support, whether it's buying equipment or help funding programs."

Bates is very thankful that the foundation gets chosen to receive the funds from the campaign every spring.

"It really proves to us that what we're doing is the right thing for our community and that we're able to make a big difference."

The last time the Smile Cookie Campaign fundraised for the Airdrie Health Foundation, $58,970.10 was generated. All smile cookies sold at Tim Hortons locations in Airdrie, Crossfield and Cross Iron Mills Mall went towards the foundation.

Dave Willies, who is a part of the Tim Hortons ownership group here in Airdrie is also thankful to everybody who bought a cookie to support the foundation.

"I think anything we can get for the Airdrie Health Foundation is great. We need to help them keep expanding to provide the right level of care."

The latest fundraiser took place back in December when around $38,000 was fundraised for the Airdrie Food Bank. The Holiday Smile Cookie Campaign will be returning once again later this year with 50 per cent of the funds generated going towards the food bank with the other half going towards Tim Horton's children camps.
