The City of Airdrie is reminding residents that a portion of Main Street between 1 Avenue Northwest and Allen Street Southwest will be closed from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Monday, July 1, for the Canada Day Parade.

"No parking signs will go up on this route at 9 a.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2024, to have the route cleared and available for barricading for the parade the following morning."

Alberta Health Services (AHS) Urgent Care Centre at 604 Main Street Southeast will remain open on this day with access via alternate routes from 7 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The alternate routes are:

  • Albert Street Northeast and 2 Avenue Northeast
  • Allen Street and Centre Avenue East to Albert Street Northeast

"These alternate routes will access the facility parking lot from the alley at the back of the building. Access to Towerlane Mall will be available from 1st Street," The City stated.

On Thursday, the City of Airdrie moved to a fire advisory alert that allows the Canada Day fireworks to proceed.

"The fireworks will take place at Chinook Winds Regional Park at 10:45 p.m. on July 1 and will be visible from multiple locations in Airdrie. To make Canada Day an enjoyable experience for all, we encourage you to get to the Canada Day events on bikes, transit, e-scooters or on foot, and limit the use of parking spaces."

Airdrie's Canada Day 

On July 1, the day will begin at 8 a.m. at Airdrie City Hall, where a free Canada Day breakfast hosted by the Kin Club of Airdrie will take place till 10 a.m.

"There will be a 50/50 raffle, and donations will be welcomed as this is a fundraiser for community non-profits. The breakfast is available for the first 1,500 parade-goers." the city said.

The Canada Day Parade will occur in downtown Airdrie from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by various other events until 4 p.m.

"Don’t rush off after the parade! Stroll through Downtown and discover our local businesses' exciting offerings and celebrations," The City added. 

Airdrie's inaugural Multicultural festival to be held on July 1 - Airdrie CultureFest will be held from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Nose Creek Park, hosted by the Airdrie CultureFest Committee.

St. Lucia-born soca artist, producer, and songwriter, Motto, will be the headliner performance on the main stage starting at 6 p.m.

The Airdrie Pro Rodeo will continue (beginning June 28) from 2:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Airdrie Rodeo Grounds.

The day will end with fireworks from 10:45 p.m. to 11:05 p.m. at the Chinook Winds Regional Park. The City hosts the fireworks, a 20-minute brilliant and dazzling artistic light performance to enjoy.

Parking is limited. Available parking lots near the site are:

  • Rocky View Schools
  • W.H. Croxford High School 
  • Chinook Winds Regional Park

Vantage point locations are:

  • Windsong School
  • Coopers Crossing School
  • Living Springs Church
  • Daybreak Church

"The fireworks show is visible from multiple locations. Grab blankets, lawn chairs and refreshments to watch the show."
