UPDATE:

The RCMP is now advising that the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is not investigating an incident where a 50-year-old man died while in Airdrie RCMP custody.

They say the RCMP Edmonton Major Crimes Unit has carriage of the investigation.

The RCMP wish to apologize for the error.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating after a man died while in the custody of Airdrie RCMP

According to a release from RCMP, a 50-year-old male was arrested and taken into custody by Airdrie RCMP at the Crossiron Mills Mall. While in custody the male died of causes that have yet to be determined. Officials say the man’s next of kin have been notified.

ASIRT, with the assistance of the RCMP Edmonton Major Crimes Unit, are investigating the incident.

RCMP say no additional details are available at this time and no further comments will be made as this is an ASIRT investigation.
