Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, has presented Alberta Premier Jason Kenney with the Ukrainian Order of Merit, Class II. Yulia Kovaliv, the Ukrainian ambassador, informed him of the honour.

In a tweet, Kenney said, "I accept the honour on behalf of Albertans, who have demonstrated overwhelming support for Ukraine during this time of trial. Slava Ukraini!"

Kenney has repeatedly pledged support for Ukraine and has invested millions of dollars in support, making Alberta one of Canada's greatest backers of the country. These include, but are not limited to:

  • $2 million in support for Ukrainians arriving in the province in April
  • $1 million in support was announced in February
  • Additional supports were announced in July to cover basic living expenses.

Alberta's contributions were used to assist displaced Ukrainians in a variety of ways, including quick settlement aid, instant access to K–12 education and health care, as well as authorized child care and job support. You can read more about Alberta's efforts in aiding Ukraine here.
