According to the province, there will be a test emergency alert at 1:55 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1. The Alberta Emergency Alert is a warning system that warns the public of an immediate disaster.

The alert will be broadcast on TV, radio, and via text message, as well as the Alberta Emergency Alert app

"The Emergency Public Warning System (EPWS) is the only system in North America designed to give local government officials the ability to broadcast an emergency warning quickly and directly to radio, cable and television stations. Environment Canada (severe weather) and Alberta Environment (flood forecasting) are also able to broadcast warnings," stated a post from the Town of Carstairs.

The Alberta Emergency Alert system is tested twice a year, during spring and fall.

Thus far in 2023, the system was used twice, once in January and once in February.
