It doesn't get much closer than last night's (August 12) volleyball gold medal final at the Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg.

Unfortunately for Ryan Zachary of Airdrie and Team Alberta, close only counts in horseshoes and that means Ontario today has the gold medals around their necks and Alberta has to settle for silver.

The gold medal match up turned out to be as close as they come, a five set affair with the final game taking an extra point to decide.  Ontario took the first two games by scores of 25 - 23 and 25 - 22 before Alberta stormed back to tie things up, winning by scores of 25 - 18 and 25 - 21, sending things to a fifth and deciding game.

In the game to 15, Alberta went ahead 12 - 10 before Ontario came back to tie things up.  The game went to a 14 - 14 tie before Ontario got the final two points to win it 16 - 14 and take the gold.

The bronze medal went to B.C. with another five set win over Quebec.
