It looked good early on for the Thunder but in the end, they fell short to the Sylvan Lake Wranglers 4-1 in the Heritage Junior Hockey League North Final.

The Wranglers now hold a 1-0 series lead in the best of seven.

At the end of the first period, the Thunder were ahead 1-0 thanks to a goal from Jacob Cathcart. The lead did not last long as the Wranglers were able to put one behind Airdrie goaltender Josh Feddema to tie it up 1-1. In the third period, the Wranglers were able to put three goals up on the board to win the opening game 4-1.

Game two of the series shifts to Airdrie Friday night at the Ron Ebbesen Arena at 8 pm.

In the regular season head-to-head, the Wranglers won 4 out of 5 games played against the Thunder.

In their opening series of the playoffs, the Airdrie Techmation Thunder beat the Mountain View Colts in six games.

Taking a look at the South Division Final, the Okotoks Carstar Bison took the 1-0 series lead against the Medicine Hat Cubs.
