Multiple hockey players from the Airdrie Xtreme showcased their talent at the Alberta Cup this past weekend.

Will McLaughlin, Benett Kelly, Aaron Sawatzky, Isaac Davies, Finn Bagley, Ryan Schrock, Caelen Joudrey, Riley Boychuk, Griffin Horne, Benett Kelly and Braeden Bohach-Murray were selected from 100-some players. They will now be representing their regions at the 2023 Alberta Cup in Red Deer. 

The Alberta Cup helps the identification and selection of potential players for Hockey Alberta’s Team Alberta Program.

On Team Blue was:

  • Finn Bagley - one goal - three assists
  • Keegan Bailey 
  • Braeden Bohach-Murray - three goals, one assist
  • Riley Boychuk - All-Star - one goal, four assists.
  • Isaac Davies - Friday Performer of the Day- one goal, one assist
  • Benett Kelly - one goal
  • Aaron Sawatzky - one goal, one assist

On team Black was:

  • Caelan Joudrey - one assist
  • Will McLaughlin - two assists
  • Ryan Schrock - one goal, one assist
  • Griffin Horne

Alberta Black finished the tournament in fifth place while Alberta Blue finished in fourth place.

Tyson Soloski, head Coach of the Airdrie Xtreme is very proud of how his hockey players did.

"It was awesome to see all of them get the opportunity to go experience the Alberta Cup, and I think they did a tremendous job playing there."

When asked if this will hopefully be a recurring theme for the Xtreme to have so many players attend the Alberta Cup, Soloski mentioned they definitely deserved to be there.

"It's a really cool opportunity for the kids and they definitely deserve it with all their hard work throughout the season and couldn't be more proud of all of them just to get there and earn a spot to play there."

Hockey Alberta’s Spring Showcase began with the Alberta Cup. The Alberta Challenge (May 3-7) and the Prospects Cup (May 10-13) will also be played in Red Deer.
