The weekend of May 27-28 was a busy one for Airdrie's Special Olympics Bowling Team as five local athletes were at training camp to prepare for the 2024 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Calgary.

The five Athletes are one of six bowling teams for Team Alberta.

These five athletes made the team as they won gold medals at the Provincial Winter Games in February.

Sandra Foreman, the Head Coach of the five-pin bowling team in Airdrie mentioned as long as she has been the coach, nothing like this has happened before.

"It's great for Special Olympics in Airdrie to get some attention."

This past weekend the team was in Edmonton for some fitness training, getting to know Team Alberta and some practice.

"The bowling team got together and we played Bocce Ball as it has the same kinds of movements that you do in bowling."

Now having some time off, the bowling team will be practicing once again in November.

'We're going to be gathering together as the bowling team, all 30 athletes in Calgary for team-specific training, we're going to be spending two days at a bowling alley."

In Airdrie, according to Foreman, the bowling season runs from October to April.
