Two Airdrie high school soccer teams pulled off upsets yesterday (June 6) in the Rocky View Playoff semi-finals, and will face each other in the Finals.

The Bert Church Chargers pulled off a huge upset, handing the top ranked Bow Valley Bobcats their first loss of the year. The Bobcats finished the regular season with five wins and one tie in the regular season, and handed the Chargers a 7-4 loss on May 23. The tables turned in yesterday's semi-final match, this time with the Chargers holding the Bobcats to four goals in a 6-4 road victory.

The George McDougall Mustangs also pulled off a road win against a higher ranked team that bested them in the regular season. The Mustangs' semi-final match came down to a dramatic finish against the Chestermere Lakers. Tied 1-1 after 90 minutes in Chestermere, the Mustangs netted an additional three goals in a shootout and pulled off the necessary stops at the other end to beat the Lakers 2-1.

The semi-final wins set up a promising Battle of Airdrie to decide the gold medal, which will go at 4:30 tomorrow (June 8) at Monklands.
