As Hometown Hockey hits Airdrie this weekend (December 16-17), we look back at the players, coaches, trainers and unsung heroes that shaped Airdrie's Hockey history.

Aaron Dell's journey to the National Hockey League is a story in itself. The 28 year old goalie never played in the WHL and spent 3 seasons with the University of North Dakota.

Dell eventually signed to play in the Central Hockey League before moving on to the ECHL and eventually five teams in the American Hockey League.

One of those teams was the Worcester Sharks, the then affiliate of the San Jose Sharks. Dell spent the greater part of two seasons with the team, which was eventually rebranded as the San Jose Barracuda. When the backup goalie spot was vacated for the San Jose Sharks following the 2015-2016 season, Dell was given his big break and he hasn't disappointing.

In his first full season with the Sharks, Dell played 20 games and had a goals against average (GAA) of 2.00. So far this year, Dell has a 1.72 GAA and Dave Percentage of .939, both are tops in the NHL for active goalies.

With such a journey already in his hockey career, you'd think Dell would have some top memories to cherish. But according to him, he's journey contains new memories all the time.

"I kinda get new ones every step of the way. Once I'm finished I think then I'll think about it a little more and I'll have those memories then."

For Dell, he said playing Hockey in Airdrie meant a lot to his career and it helped him begin his great hockey journey.

"I was able to play on the high level teams growing up. I learned how to hone my skills and build my work ethic and things all through Airdrie Minor Hockey."

Dell said the year so far has been great with the San Jose Sharks and is looking to getting back into the playoffs.
