An upcoming Calgary Flames game is set to benefit the Airdrie Pride Society.

The Arizona Coyotes pay a visit to the Saddledome on March 6 for 'You Can Play' Pride Night.

Airdrie Pride Society Vice President Candice Kutyn says the Flames host a Pride Night every season.

"It's a partnership with 'You Can Play' which is trying to break down some of those stereotypes around sports and get everybody involved and for it to be inclusive," says Kutyn. "So they reached out to us and a portion of the ticket sales will come back to Airdrie Pride."

Kutyn suspects last year's Pride Festival helped Airdrie Pride catch the attention of the Flames organization.

"We're kind of making a bigger name for ourselves with our first Pride event we had last year, the Festival and the Solidarity Walk. So the news is getting out there, so they reached out and they are really trying to support more of the rural communities as well as Calgary," says Kutyn.

Thousands of people from Airdrie and beyond came out to support the city's first ever Pride Festival on June 22, 2019.

Main Street was filled with rainbows and smiling faces as members and supporters of the LGBTQ2S+ community walked in solidarity from Airdrie City Hall to Nose Creek Park where the celebrations continued into the afternoon.

Kutyn says in the wake of their successful event, other communities like Cochrane have reached out to the Airdrie Pride Society with great feedback, support, and excitement over the potential of hosting similar events in their communities.

As for 2020, Kutyn says Airdronians can "save the date" for this year's Pride festivities.

"Our date is June 14 this year. We are in the planning stages. In the next little while you'll start to see the announcements and information on how to either have a booth at our event or how to attend and what's going to be happening," says Kutyn.

In the meantime, tickets for the 'You Can Play' Pride Night in support of Airdrie Pride can be purchased HERE.
