Beiseker RCMP are investigating the death of a 30-year-old man from Saanich, B.C. from a firearm-related injury yesterday (January 23) afternoon.

At around 3:00 pm, Airdrie, Beiseker and Three Hills RCMP all responded to the area of Highway 567 and Range Road 280 in Rocky View County.  "RCMP initiated first-aid until EMS attended and took over," said RCMP Corporal Deanna Fontaine.  "Unfortunately the 30-year-old male succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased at the scene."

Fontaine could give no further details on how the incident occurred, only saying, "This incident is believed to be isolated and the RCMP do not believe that the public is at risk."

An autopsy is being conducted today by the Chief Medical Examiner in Calgary.

Fontaine said STARS Air Ambulance was dispatched but was told to stand down after being told the man had died.  His name will not be released.

The RCMP said an update will be provided once more information becomes available.
