It was an exhilarating weekend for the Airdrie Peewee Tier 1 Lightning as they played in a tournament in Lac La Biche.

The Lightning started the tournament with a tough but exciting game against Slave Lake on Saturday (January 20). After regulation, the game was tied 3-3 and went directly to a shootout, which Slave Lake took in four rounds.

Despite the loss, the Lightning were determined to roar back, which they did in a big way by beating Bonnyville in their next game 8-0.

The Lightning wrapped up their Saturday with a rematch against Slave Lake, which didn't need a shootout, as Airdrie took the game 4-2.

Following wins against Slave Lake and Lac La Biche on Sunday, the Lightning were set to play for the gold medal against Vermillion.

The Lightning gave it their all and in the end, skated away with a 5-3 win and the championship.

On top of winning the tournament, the team was also recognized for top defence and top goaltending.
