Three members of Airdrie Edge Gymnastics Club, Brayden, Olivia, and Zoe have a very strong showing at the Western Canada Cup.

All three members had really strong performances, Brayden was first in level 4 Tumbling, first in level three Trampoline, third in level four Double Mini ages 15 and up and an all-around place of fifth. Olivia was first in Double mini, level three ages 15 and up, first in Tumbling, level two in ages 14 and up, second in Synchro level one and ninth in Trampoline level three ages 15 and up. Zoe also had a strong showing, first in Trampoline, level one ages 13 and up, second in level one Synchro, eighth in Double mini level three ages 15 and up and 15th in Tumbling level three ages 15 and up.

Discover Airdrie was able to speak to Brayden Hatton-Fernley and his mother Shannon about the trip to Port Coquitlam for the event.

“It was really fun being with Team Alberta to compete at Westerns,” said Brayden.

Brayden mentioned his plan from here now that the season is over is to level up and get more difficult routines for next year to hopefully try to mobilize on more of his events.

Luckily at Westerns, Brayden did so well that he mobilized for Nationals in Tumbling. He is still working on improving his other skills to try and mobilize for Nationals in his other events.

“The goal this year is to bump them up and be national level in all three for January next year,” said Shannon Hatton-Fernley, Brayden's mother.

As he is working on improving his other events Brayden will be able to go to much bigger events when it comes to Tumbling.

“Next year, he will be competing in bigger competitions. The national level is basically all the top people across Canada, he could compete for Team Canada next year,” said Shannon.

Shannon mentioned Brayden's overall goal is to try and reach the Olympics one day.

“All around, it was very exciting. It was interesting meeting lots of new people and seeing all the amazing skills, "said Shannon.
