Airdrie has the lowest taxes and expenses per capita compared to other mid-size cities in Alberta according to the 2010 Financial Indicators from Alberta Municipal Affairs. Each year Airdrie’s audited financial information is compared to other cities in the province of roughly the same size. The comparison group includes Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, St. Albert and Grande Prairie. Dorian Kachur with the City says it's great news.

Airdrie’s tax rate is the lowest in the group.

Municipalities establish a tax rate to generate operating funds. The tax rate times the assessed value of a property gives you the actual taxes each resident will pay. For example, $300,000 x 4.6% = $1,380. A copy of the full report is at www.airdrie.ca
