If you're looking for something to do on New Year's Day, the Calgary Wranglers are hosting their second annual Airdrie Day.
Airdrie Day is a way for Airdronians to celebrate different not-for-profit groups in Airdrie while watching an entertaining hockey game.
Dave Maffitt, Chair of the Board of Directors for the Volunteer Airdrie Society, which is one of the not-for-profits you can help out, is excited for the big event.
"The idea was to celebrate the community of Airdrie by having a game dedicated to the community where nonprofit groups could sign up and raise money by selling tickets."
Maffitt explained buying the tickets that would support local groups is at a discounted price compared to Ticketmaster or other ticket-selling websites.
"$5 of the discounted ticket price for each ticket will go back to the organization you chose to help out."
As of right now, only Airdrie BMX, Volunteer Airdrie and Revolution Softball are the groups signed up and participating in Airdrie Day.
They are still looking for other not-for-profits that are willing to partake in the special day, if you are interested in signing up feel free to email Maffitt at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Maffitt explained the last Airdrie Day Wranglers game was held in March and it was a lot of fun.
"It's such exciting hockey and it was great as there was a fairly large contingent from Airdrie."
This year's game is against one of the top teams in the league, the Coachella Valley Firebirds. The game will take place at the Saddledome on New Year's Day (January 1) at 1 p.m. If you are interested in purchasing tickets, click HERE.
