The 2017 Canada Summer Games will kick off tonight (July 28) in Winnipeg with Opening Ceremonies, and four Airdrie athletes will take in the spectacle.

Soccer player Sam Gagne, baseball player Ayden Makarus, swimmer Alex Sharpe and volleyball player Ryan Zachary will all represent Team Alberta at the games, which run until August 13.

The Opening Ceremonies will take place at 6:00pm at Bell MTS Place, and will feature performances from Canadian musicians Serena Ryder, Coeur de Pirate and The Bros. Landreth. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will also attend the ceremonies.

Competition for the games kicks off tomorrow (July 29). Makarus will see action right away with his first baseball game tomorrow. Gagne, Sharpe and Zachary won't see competition until week two of the Summer Games.
