The Airdrie Ag Society has called off a popular event regularly held during the summer.

The society posted on Twitter that they've made the decision to cancel the Ranch Hand Competition which had been scheduled for next Saturday, July 24th.

The post said the event was cancelled by economic factors and the lower than expected number of competitors that had registered for the competition.

The team event features branding, team penning and sorting, doctoring and other traditional work done by ranch hands.  A kid's calf scramble was also scheduled.
